Introduction: In India, the selective abortion of female foetuses has led to an alarming "gender gap" in the country's population.
Aims and objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the level of knowledge regarding female foeticide among the adolescents in selected urban areas in Mysore.
Approach and design: In the study, exploratory descriptive survey was used.
Samples and sampling criteria: The knowledge was assessed among 30 adolescents. The level of knowledge was measured by using structured interview schedule regarding female foeticide. The data were collected and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.
Results: Results of the study revealed that, the mean level of knowledge scores was 11.066 with SD±2.247, ranged from 8-15 and there is no significant association with any variables.
Conclusion: Thus study concludes that the adolescents should get enough awareness regarding female foeticide. As health professionals it's the responsibility of us to conduct some awareness programe to improve their level of knowledge.

Background: Depressed patients have significantly greater number of life events prior to the onset of their illness. Rates of depression have increased over the past five decades, with younger age of onset. Many adolescents suffer from brief periods of depression when they are faced with an upsetting event or disappointment.
Aim: The aim of the present study was to assess and correlate life events and depressive symptoms among adolescents studying at selected schools in Mysore.
Methodology: Descriptive and Correlation survey design was used. Using non probability convenience sampling technique, total 100 adolescents were selected. Tool used to collect the data consisted of three part: Proforma for selected personal variables (10 items), Modified Adolescent Life Events Questionnaire (46 items) and Modified Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale for Children (20 items).
Results: Collected data was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results revealed that, 91 adolescent's life events score was between 0-23 suggestive of less life events and 09 adolescents suggestive of high life events with the score range 24-46. Present study findings shows that 50 adolescents have no depressive symptom, 40 adolescents have mild depressive symptom and 10 adolescents have suggestive of major depressive symptom. The calculated correlation coefficient 'r' value r(100) = 0.886 between life events and depression found to be significant at 0.05 level. Chi square was computed to find the association with selected personal variables and was not significant at 0.05 level except for gender, class of study and occupation of father.
Conclusion: This study has revealed that adolescents life events was positively correlated with depressive symptoms among adolescents.

Background: Emergency nurses frequently contact patients in the emergency department before the patient seen by a physician. In this situation, the nurse must be skilled at rapid, accurate physical examination, early recognition of life-threatening illness or injury, the use of advanced monitoring and treatment equipment, and in some cases, the ordering of testing and medication according to "advance treatment guidelines" or "standing orders" set out by the hospital's emergency physician staff.
Objectives:
1. To assess the pre-test knowledge scores of 4th year B.Sc Nursing students on utilization of emergency crash cart system in hospital.
2. To assess the effectiveness of self instructional module of knowledge on utilization of emergency crash cart system in hospital in terms of post test knowledge scores
3. To develop self instructional module on utilization of emergency Crash Cart System in Hospital.
Methods: Quasi experimental one group pre-test and post-test design with evaluative approach was used. Study was carried out in selected Nursing Colleges in Mysore, using simple random sampling. 100 4th year B.Sc Nursing students were selected as samples. Data was collected by a self - administered questionnaire which includes demographic data, and 30 items related to General information (10), Definition, purposes and contents (7), and types of emergency crash cart and its maintenance (20). Self-instructional module was administered after assessing the pre-test. A post test was conducted after 7 days with same tool.
Results: Findings reveal that the among 100 students majority 47(47%) of them were in the age group between 22-25 yrs. 52(52%) were females, and 37(37%) of them were got information from Class Teachers .Pre test revealed that 4th year B.Sc Nursing students were having low level of knowledge with a mean score of 18.35. After giving Self-instructional module post test score increased to 23.69, which shows the effectiveness of Self instructional module. It has been found that variables like age, sex and source of information shows there will be significant association with Post- test knowledge level.
Interpretation and conclusion: As the mean post test score is significantly higher than that of the pre-test it is evident that the knowledge of 4th year B.Sc Nursing students was improved after the educational intervention. The tool developed can be used to identify individuals in need of educational intervention as well as to assess the effectiveness of emergency crash cart system. Implications of various aspects of nursing care addressed and recommendations for the future research are discussed.

Himalayan glaciers, which contribute to water security for almost 1.3 billion people in Asia, are now under threat due to climate change. Assessment of glacier mass balance changes is crucial to determine the implications of climate change, but in situ measurements are limited due to rugged terrain and harsh climate of the Himalaya. Remote sensing-based geodetic method is therefore important for studying the evolution of Himalayan glaciers at a large scale. In this study, the mass balance of glaciers located in Baspa basin (Western Himalaya) is estimated for a period of 11 years between 2000 and 2011, using geodetic method. Out of 89 glaciers in the basin, 42 glaciers (greater than 1 km2) covering an area of ~72% (215 km2) of the total glaciated area were selected for the study. A mean thinning of ~50 ± 11 m and mean accumulation of ~35 ± 11 m was observed during the study period, with the cumulative mass balance varying between -36.9 ± 1.98 and 6.47 ± 1.98 m.w.e. A mean annual mass loss of -1.09 ± 0.32 m.w.e.a-1 was observed for the entire basin, suggesting that the glaciers in Baspa basin are losing mass at higher rate compared to the glaciers in central and eastern Himalayas. This study demonstrates the utility of geodetic method to estimate mass balance of glaciers at basin scale, which will be useful to assess future changes in glacial extent and stream run-off.Keywords
